today in class we are using our online grammar books on page 129 to compare the meaning of indirect objects from the book to our packet. Then we discussed the similarities and differences between the two texts. We also show why both are important because the each contain content that the other does not have. We are now working on numbers 1-5 for exercise 4 on page 130. We got all of our word within the word test dates for the rest of the year!(: Then we read "The Stag at the Pool" and completed the Jacobs ladder chart. (:

12/17/13 7th period by the Ducks, Quinn and Shaan
In class today, we had a guest speaker, Mrs. Stone. She lived in the time period World War Two occurred and she spoke about the major differences between then and now. We wrote down questions and Mrs. Piechowiak sent them to her via e-mail. As the opening to her speech, she answered the questions that we had asked. At first she explained the differences in the classroom and kitchens since they have had the greatest changes over time. Something that I found interesting was that until the late 50's people wrapped their trash in newspaper and put it into a can. Also, there were no gas powered law mowers back then. There were also no organized youth sports programs! WW2 effected almost everything in a citizen's life . There were also ration cards that the people turned in for food and other essentials. Victory gardens were grown so the people could make as much as their own food.
Recycling was also very important to the war effort since may things were reused and implemented into products used during the war. She explained that most people were stressed but people coped since they knew that they are in it together as a nation. She said that she had two uncles that were drafted but they were never in combat since they were trained to bake breads and etc. they were used to make food for soldiers. Surgeons were in high demand for service in the military for helping injured soldiers. She also said that people felt that serving their country was a duty and some people tried to enlist before they were 18 and people that were too old tried to enlist since they all wanted to pay their dues to their country. Another point she made was that only the Jewish communities knew that Hitler was such a terrible person since there communities were targeted. Air Force pilots would use a device that was strapped to their leg and they used something like a protractor that navigated it and they used a compass if the device didn't work properly or accurately. She said that the general public knew nothing of the two bombs that were dropped upon Hiroshima. The general public were glad at first since they thought that the war would be over. Then they realized it was horrible because of the radiation poison and burns.

HAPPPY HALLOWEEN!!! It's been an competitive day in Language Arts. Today in class we picked out words that relate to Halloween from Word Within the Word. Some of these words were, alter ego, sangfroid, cacophony, and gregarious. We also had fun watching some of our classmates present their verb projects. We observed our classmates talk about past, perfect, and future tenses, especially past perfect, present perfect, and future perfect. Avery and Hannah created an intense Game Show; boys vs girls. The boys took home the victory with a clean sweep. The girls need to get their verbs down! Great job to all of our participants!
